  • Reasonable Request

    Hi,

I am a IT System Administrator at a college group. At the moment we are coming to our usual exam period, except this time the teachers are planning to strike during exam period meaning that there will be a shortage of Invigilators. The senior management have sent out an email instructing that all business support personnel such as myself becoming invigilators to provide cover for these exams.

Our Head of HR claims that this is a 'reasonable request' under our JDs.

My opinion is that it is not a 'reasonable request' as it is completely different role outside of my field of work in ICT. Would you guys agree?

    Thanks

    Steve

I presume that this is only for a temporary period during "exam season" and
that your salary and terms and conditions will not change for the period you are an invigilator?
Even though it may be a different role I am sure that it is something that would be a straight-forward task to perform remembering back to my days of sitting exams and the role of the invigilator.

In which case I would consider it to be a reasonable request given the temporary nature of the situation. You may just need to establish any revised timescales for tasks that you were maybe due to complete in the period you are invigilating.
