  • Company sick pay

    Hi guys

Looking for some advice for my son

He has had a double knee operation and is on long term sick leave.

his company pay sick pay for 26 weeks but today he has only been paid ssp.

when he phoned HR told him that he has had his quota for the year which he queried as he thought this week was the start of a new year but they told him that as it is a long term absence his year doesnt reset until he retur s.

Is this correct? They say he has to return and then go off again before they will pay sick pay for this financial year but if he returns before he is fit and then takes more time off he will accrue massive Bradford points for his absences but financially he cannot get by on SSP

The doctors say he needs a least another 4-6 weeks off

    Any advice appreciated

Does your son have a copy of the company's sick pay policy? If not I would suggest that he asks the HR department to send him a copy to check what the policy states and whether what he is being told is correct.
