I have been working at my current workplace for almost a year now and, I admit my error, no contracts were signed. I have informed them about my student loans, and they have been regularly paying my salary into my account with "wages" clearly indicated in the reference.
I am trying to figure out my student loan repayments for this period and I just found out from the employer that none of that has been done, and that I am not on payroll. The amount that I am to pay by default is significant, and I simply cannot pay for it. The default amount is there because I was abroad before, so they must have assumed that I still was when I started my current job in the UK.
What happens if I inform the Student Finance Company of this? Am I liable for the default amount owed, despite the fact that I did not earn enough to pay, and have bank statements to prove it?
Thanks in advance.
