Yesterday we received a very weird letter through the door from Marston. £682.97 fine for something unknown due to pay immediately! No prior warnings.
The letter is addressed to my husband, though his name was spelled incorrectly and was missing half his surname. This is the weirdest thing as we rarely get any post addressed to him specifically.
Reason why is my husband and I got married last year in October. He's Brazilian and came over on a visitors visa and we got permission to get married from the home office. Since then we've applied for his spouse visa from the UK, but its taking more time to process than usual due to covid coupled with Brexit. So we just have to patiently wait for approval hoping that it will get sorted soon.
In the meantime he cannot work, he cannot drive (also we dont own a car), all the bills and council tax are in my name and are paid regularly. He's not registered or subscribed to anything, has no debts, no assets in this country...
So my question is... What the hell is this? How do they even know he's here? How did they get his information? The only people who would know of his stay in the UK is the home office.
We think this is identity theft for sure. Neither of us could sleep last night we were so disturbed by this.
I thought it was a money scam at first but ive checked the number on the letter and the return address on the back of the envelope and its actually legit! It has come from Marston.
I've sent them an email because when I call the number it just rings off. We're hoping to have this sorted next week but im so frightened that this might even hurt his visa application or something. It seems like an utterly sick and cruel joke.
