Hi all,
I'm hoping you can help as the whole ordeal has left me feeling extremely stressed and unsettled.
In 2019 was made aware of a CCJ brought against me back in 2015 when checking my credit file. I had received no communication of this despite the order containing my current address and was completly unaware. I was advised to ignore it until I received some form of communication in regards to it.
The 6 year mark passed so thought it was over. However on New Years Day 2023 I received a letter from Mortimer Clarke in regards to the debt. I ignored this and a further one a few months later and have since moved address.
I have since been receiving phone calls and on reading some advice on here decided to answer and discuss the debt. They started by stating it was a debt from back in 2011. I stayed in that case surely it would be statute barred. She put me on hold for a while before coming back detailing the CCJ to which I advised it was no longer enforceable as reasonable steps had not been made within the 6 year period of the CCJ. They claimed they had been sending me letters since 2015 to another address (despite my correct address being isted on the actual CCJ).
They ended the call by asking me to cofirm I was disputing their right to continue to enforce the debt which I confirmed and requested they use e-mail to contact me further and refused to give them my current address.
Any advise as to what I should do now would be greatly appreciated as I have just bought a house and finacial issues are a real trigger for my mental health as is not telling my wife about the latest contact as she thought this had all blown over once the 6 years was up. I'm afraid me blindly dealing with it may make matters worse.
Kind regards
Chris
