My landlord is repairing alot our shared house where I am a tenant. I went for 10 days holiday and my LL asked my door key to go inside my room as I am away. He did not tell me what he would do there, so I was assuming he will do something minor like checking electric, smoke alarm, fixing the window etc small. But, when I came back he did many big repairs, like new carpet, alot of electric sockets etc. All good, but the bad thing is that he carelessly moved my belongings: My expensive computer part was broken, my external hard disc missing etc. I confronted him but he claims he carefully moved and "did not throw anything away". I am sure this is not true, as the computer is clearly hit quite hard by something. He threw away the drawers (his, but the content mine), and in my first drawer there was many important things including the backup harddisk (I have receipts buying it). He also threw some clothes and football gear and chair....
I am not happy about this, and asked compensation but he has not replied. I am thinking of small claims court. I read that LL is not allowed to touch my belongings and cannot do things in my room unless he tell me first what he is going to do (like moving my belongings). I did not give permission to move my belongins/throwing them away. I know for sure my hard disk was in the drawer but cannot prove he took it. But I read it's his responsibility to prove he did not throw it?
Any advice would be nice as I think it's good to confront his attitude, and what do you think, do I have chance here?
I have picture showing I put my computer in the corner - when I came back it was moved and placed horizontally which probably broke it. I cannot prove he broke it, but he asked me to give the graphics card he tries to fix it (and I discuss about this in text messages with him). The computer was working day before I went on holiday, so I am sure he broke it.
Thank you
