When sending a CPR etc is it essential to still send £1 as a cheque?

The reason I ask is that I have dealt with a couple of claims in the past and sent off cheques with the requests and they never got cashed.
Ive now got a new claim in and Im waiting for a new cheque book to arrive and dont want to waste time.

    Thanks
