Claim Form and AoS filing query

Hi all I wonder if you can help...

If I complete the AoS of a Claim Form (within 14 days of service) and check "I intend to defend all of this claim", but then I change my mind about defending what happens? Can I pay the amount claimed and not risk default CCJ (assuming I do that within 28 days of the date of service). I'm asking because I'm not sure if I will be able to get hold of the documents that I need in time for my defence in which case I want to pay the amount in full to avoid CCJ.

Also, if that scenario is possible, would I incur any additional charges?

Acknowledge Claim - within 14 days from Service

Defend Claim - within 28 days from Service (IF you acknowledged in time)

If you fail to Acknowledge the claim you may have a default judgment awarded against you, likewise, if you fail to enter your defence within 28 days from Service.
