  • Civil Claims issued

My parents have received a civil claim, addresses to me over a legal issue dealt with as a criminal case in December 2019.

In February 2020, I left the UK and moved to China where I currently work and reside. I have not officially declared myself having left the UK because of tax rebates only revieved in October 2020.

    What should I do?

Should I ignore the letter because I am no longer in the UK?

Should my parents return to sender, telling them it was opened by accident and I am no longer at that address?

If I ignore it what will the long term repercussions be?

If I respond what will the repercussions be?

    Please help!
    Thank you!

Tell them to give the claimant your address in China as an address for service. And do it in writing and get a free certificate of posting from a post office to show it was sent.

China is somewhat out of the jurisdiction of the UK courts.

You could send similar letter to them for confirmation with Chinese stamp on

When you say civil claim do you mean a claim form from the court?

I have recieved another letter, it is a civil claims specialist.

My parents are going to send the letter back as not know at this address, along with my new address in China attached.

I would like to ask, if they decide to drop the claim now, will they be able to pick it back up in the future?
