  • Lowell Solicitors Clears Remaining CCJ Balance Before I Make Large Payment

    Hello,

I have had a CCJ with Lowell Solicitors for approximately 2 years and I have been paying them £50 a month.

Initially, all correspondence was sent to a different home address as I have moved several times and I spotted the CCJ on my credit file when checking it myself, so I didn't have an opportunity to contest or pay in full quickly. However, the original debt was mine.

The CCJ was originally around £2000 and I had £1000 left to pay. I called them on 01/05/2019 to pay the remaining balance in full as I am looking at attempting to get a mortgage. During the call, they said there was some type of error and I would be unable to pay the remaining balance today and they would ring me back the next day. I asked if I could just pay it online and they said I would not be able to as I would then be owed a refund. Obviously, this did not make much sense at the time but I just assumed their systems may be playing up. I have not spoken to them since but it has been less than 24 hours.

After the call I checked my account on their website and it stated that I owed £0 and under the transaction history it listed that a payment of just over £1000 had been made.

This money has not left my account. I didn't even share my card details with them over the phone at this time (I am aware they have my details from my previous direct debt with them).

Where does this leave me? I was concerned they may have been attempting to stop my payment plan and then attempt to claim more money from me?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Ostell. I have downloaded the complete transaction list from their website and taken a screen shot of everything.
