  • Legal obligation to register on Electoral Roll

Apologies if this is not the right place to post - I couldn't see an obvious alternative.

Having recently moved house, I duly received a form from my new local council to register me on the Electoral Roll.

Now, I am all in favour of democracy so will be sending the form back and will turn out to vote as and when...

The reason for this post is thus sheer idle curiosity, as follows:

Can anyone tell me what specific legislation obliges me to:
    (a) provide any details at all to go on the Electoral Roll
    (b) provide true and complete details i.e. not use a fake name

I had a browse through the Representation of the People Act 1983 and the Electoral Registration and Administration Act 2013 but nothing leaped out at me.

    Thanks in advance!
