  • Civil court or police

Good evening and thank you for adding me.

I am not sure if I should take civil action or call the police and would appreciate any advice.

A few years back I was having my house renovated so I gave some valuable items of jewellery to my brother who promised to look after them for me.

His wife died and his son moved in with him. When my house was completed I asked for the items back and my brother has delayed giving them to me saying he will get his son to help look for them when he is not so busy with work. This has gone on for over a year and both my brother and his son deny knowing where the jewellery is claiming it is somewhere in the house but they don't know where.

Recently another family member has shed some light onto some past behaviour by my brother's son that I was unaware of. This family member believes the son has taken it and is either keeping it or has sold it. They base this on past things I was unaware of. If I had known this about the son I would never have left they jewellery there as much of it is of sentimental value and from my wife's family.

The family member says my brother is lying to protect his son.

What do I do call the police or take to court?

    Thank you in advance
