  • Letter of Claim of BW Legal

    I have been receiving EMAILS (not letters) from BW Legal saying I have a debt to pay which I do not recognise and now they say they have issued a 'letter of claim' to my correspondence address.

    But, I have not received any such Letter of Claims.

    The latest email says, my Letter of Claim expires on the 26th of Feb, but they are 'willing to work with me' and offer me a reduced payment of £306 to settle the debt.

    Any advice on how to proceed with it please?

    Is it just a ploy from BW Legal to get whatever they can? Can they send such emails without issuing letter of claim?

    I am not sure if they have my correct details as well and they were just 'beating around the bushes' . I am vary of contacting them and give all my details as then they would have all the details..

    is this an industry practice? how to best approach this please?

      Is the alleged debt for a loan, credit card or some sort of services (telecoms or other type)?

        The alleged debt is for utility (water supply) - how does that make a difference pls ?

          I know it doesn’t on the face of it make a difference, but it does in your response.

          You need to email them and inform them that you have not received a LBA.

          Had you received it that you’d have ticked box ‘D’ and in box ‘I’ you require proof that you were resident at the property at the time and therefore liable to their charges.

          If there is a meter, that they read and applied the meter readings to raise the chargers.

            I have emailed them..but they seem to ask me a lot of details for 'data protection' including my address and I am not sure if I am supposed to give them those..

            as per the process the paper work must be sent by Post right before any court proceedings ?
