  • Garage headgasket repair advice

    Hi,

I was hoping somebody could give me some advice on this issue I've got.

In Late October 2021 I was returning home from a long journey when my car went completely dead on the motorway, this company towed the vehicle to their garage which diagnosed a failed head gasket. They fixed it and I got back my car on the 10th of December. In June 2022, I took it there again in June 2022 because it stalled and would not start again when it was warm (a symptom of a failing head gasket, again). They diagnosed it as a failed coil pack and replaced it without contacting me to approve the repair, but I decided to trust them.

Skipping to December 2022 I've got exactly the same issue as before, took it there, and they confirmed it was failed head gasket but asked me for £400 in order to strip down the engine to claim it on the part's warranty. When I confronted them that they should be the ones honoring the repair they said they're not trading anymore and that I'd need to go pick up the car. Their company is still active on the Company's House website and I had the same confirmation from the Insolvency Service.

I've since sent them a letter of complaint following contact with Citizen's Advice but Royal Mail couldn't deliver it and it's now sitting in a delivery office waiting for them to collect.

I could just scrap the car and be done with it but I'd be losing out on at least £1000 vs selling it privately in working condition.

Any help would be much appreciated.
