  • Enforcing a Judgement abroad?

I have a Judgement against me for defaulting on a mortgage. Last year I moved back to South Africa after I became too I'll to work and continue to live in the UK. My fear is that the debtors come banging on the door here or try to enforce the judgement here. I dont want my elderly parents to faced the stress and risk of the family home being seized (I'm a co-owner with them)

I have researched and found very little online information. One website said there was a reciprocal agreement between UK and SA and another said it was not possible to enforce a judgement on property in another jurisdiction. But no real clarity.

I am hoping someone on this forum has direct experience or more knowledge about this. Even first hand experience?

The value of the debt is 67k when the property became uninhabitable but also unsaleable and bank wouldn't consider a voluntary surrender.

Of course, this is in truth a question for South African lawyers.
