  • Residential without residing

    Good evening,

I have a boat moored on the Thames I am in adverse possession of the land and the land is described as lesuire use as it has been a lesuire mooring before this. I have applied for planning permission for the boat to be moored next to the land and the use of the boat is for lesuire. It has been described as being residential as it has the basic facilities to live on boar, without water heating or toilets but I have stayed on the boat during lock down to keep to government guidance on protection of vulnerable people. Is the size of the boat or because it can provide a basic place to stay enough to justify being residential when I live elsewhere and the boat is used for occasional stays and is used seasonally. I am concerned the decision may impact on all boats that are not lived on but could be required to have residential planning permission to be legal. Is this the thin edge of the wedge to make people stop having boats on the rivers lakes, marinas or a simple mistake that has now created a precedent.
    Thank you for you comments.
