  • Jury service

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me please.

I have been called up for jury service. Big city crown court. I would like to know if anyone here has recent experience of jury service in the UK please.

    Specifically:
    - Were you expected to physically go to the court and wait to be selected for a case, or did you have to phone in daily to see if you were needed? (i.e. are COVID conditions prevailing?)
    - Does the current backlog of cases mean that crown courts are currently busier than they were pre COVID?
    - And therefore does that mean that there is greater chance of sitting as an actual juror in a trial rather than in the waiting room?
    - Is it possible to speak to the court clerk or usher and tell them you'd be up for sitting on a longer case (as I am and far from wanting to get out of it, I am very keen to be involved)

    Any responses welcome, thank you

My wife was selected for Jury Service some time ago and although to this day she would not discuss it, the selection was quite simple and in fact the trial took some time as it was a serious crime..

You do not have a choice of what kind of trial you may be selected for. After an initial interview, if you are selected, then, if the system is the same, you will attend to a general area and await a calling if you are needed.
