  • Help please! Recieved a court summons

    Hi there,
I'm really hoping someone can help me.
7 years ago my partner was driving home from work when a taxi on the opposite side of the road struck a boy knocking him in front of my partners car. He tried to stop but hit him. He had some serious injuries but recovered.
police took statements and we never heard anymore about it until today. Sheriff officers just arrived at our door with summons wanting £2 million in compensation.
looking for advice on what to do now! What do we do from here? Can we dispute it? As it was the taxi who hit the boy and knocked him onto the road? And can he really claim 7 years down the line?

    Hi MEIGH

We don't get many claims from Scotland on the site. But nevertheless. The Compensation claim might be out of time, the important factor might be the age of the boy at the time of the accident. Also there would be other mitigating factors, as you state, the taxi struck the boy first, so after that you could not control the situation much.

Did you have car insurance at the time? If you did, you would need to pass the claim form to your insurance company at the time to deal with.

Do any of your insurance policies have 'legal expenses' cover? check just in case you need it.

I agree - pass everything to insurance company.
