  • Music Magpie and damage of product

    Hi Guys,

I was wondering if someone could offer some advice for me, I have read some old posts regarding music magpie previously which were successful.

I bought a PS5 in November therefore I was looking to sell my PS4 and music magpie were the best price quoted and I’ve used them previously for an iPhone and everything went fine.

So as you do with any tech device before selling it I started up my PlayStation 4 and did a full factory reset and removed a disk from the drive, therefore everything was working fine with now issues what so ever. Then I send the item in a box wrapped in fragile tape.

Once the box had been delivered I received an email saying that there may be a delay, then another one saying they will check it soon then another one stating that there was a fault and the revised price was a ridiculous amount like £1, even though the quote was £110.

They advised that the PS4 wouldn’t switch on due to a fault with the on button and sent a picture with just an arrow pointing to the on button. I immediately declined the offer and everything was in working order when I sent the item, and sent them an email immediately advising it was in full working order and if it was in fact damaged it was done in delivery or in their hands etc.

They returned the item and once received the top of the PS4 PS4 was loose and the half of the top literally slid off as I took it out of the box. Plugged it in and as suspected the PS4 no longer turns on.

Usually I wouldn’t take this further and it’s not just about the money, it’s the principle as well, I’ve chosen to use their service and sent them a fully functional PS4 and now I have a broken one with no money in return.

I made them aware of this, made a complaint but they say that there was no sign of damage on the box therefore they cannot claim from the courier. I did advised that if someone did drop the box the box wouldn’t of been damaged anyway, but the PS4 could still of been damaged etc.

If anyone could give me any advice on where I stand with this, I’ve also noticed this type of thing happening to a lot of customers (sending fully functional item, getting a low price and then receiving a damaged product in return).

    Thank you in Advance!

    Did you insure the package?

No they advised they insure all items, was a prepaid barcode I put on the package, take to the post office and they just scan and take it off my hands etc.

I have just had the same thing, sent a immaculate I phone 7 as was offered a fair price via Music Magpie. Posted it bubbled wrapped in a jiffy bag. Received an email once it arrived advising the screen was cracked (no photos) I declined their offer so am now waiting for it to be returned. Now have a damaged phone and cant claim against Royal Mail as MM paid for the postage.
