  • Claims court advice please

Hello, I would be extremely grateful for some advice please.
in February my elderly mother had a new boiler fitted and all was fine until she realised he hadn’t left any paperwork. I rang the boiler company to find he had never registered the boiler. They told me to call Gas safe immediately which I did and they told me he isn’t a registered gas engineer. They came out to check the work and shut the boiler down.
My mum has had to pay a further £1000 getting the work rectified.
Gas safe and the health and safety executive are onto him now but I want to try and claim the money back for mum. What he’s done is illegal and extremely dangerous. I write him a before court letter and he said he was registered with another company as a sub contractor at the time and sent me a photo of his gas safe card. I spoke to that company who said he wasn’t working for them and that he was using their gas safe registration illegally. I have checked the register and he’s not on there so I have told him I’m starting the court action. He was quite threatening in his response.
I just want to check whether the claims court is the right way to do this? The HSE will deal his working illegally and fraudulently but I just want some of my mum’s money back.
    any advice gratefully received.
    thank you
