I’m a researcher at Birmingham City University working on a project called Language of DIY Justice (https://www.bcu.ac.uk/research/stori...ices-processes)
Through this project we’re hoping to find out about the experiences of people who represent themselves in court (litigants in person) with a particular focus on language and communication. We’re interested both in how litigants in person prepare for court (completing documents, talking to social services/CAFCASS), and their experiences communicating in the courtroom setting (talking to judges, magistrates, lawyers…etc).
If you are currently representing yourself or have recently represented yourself in court, we would like to hear from you. You can share your experience in three ways:
(1) By questionnaire https://bcu.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/diy-justice-survey
(2) By phone interview https://bcu.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/contact-form *
(3) If you wish, you can also submit (anonymously) written materials that you have prepared for court (witness statements, position statements, skeleton arguments…) https://bcu.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/diy-...ing-your-forms *
If you would like to share your experiences with us in any (or all!) of these ways, please follow the links above.
Thank you in advance, and if you have any questions about the project please get in touch at DIYJustice@bcu.ac.uk
