Hi guys, need a bit of advice. I was being stupid yesterday and shoplifted stuff worth around £10/12 worth of stuff from primark. The security guard caught me and took me to a closed room. They checked my bag and pockets. They gave me the RLP letter. I was also told to write an apology letter to the manager as they said I have been banned from all shops. Just wondering if that means I will get caught for just entering the shop? How long does ban last? I am going to pay fine but I was wondering if it will come on advanced and normal DBS checks? Coz it does, it will ruin my future as I am going uni in sept and looking for part time job. Have I ruined my future coz of this mistake? I do regret what I did and don't know if I can ever forgive myself.

Re: Primark shoplift DBS check
Hi and welcome.
Relax.... this will not be recorded by the police (they weren't involved) so will not show on any DBS check, enhanced or not.
I trust you will ignore all RLP's invitations to pay them money, even if they write to you in scary red ink.
....and as for writing a letter of apology to the manager

Re: Primark shoplift DBS check
They said I have to send a letter to apologise so I can enter after ban has been lifted. Also the only thing I am scared about is that I read if I ignore the letters, will become a court case. My parents said they will pay for the money and that I will pay them back after job is confirmed. But when applying for jobs, do they still check and should I be honest about it beforehand?

I agree with des8 ... ignore any letters you receive from any company (quite often one called RLP), and don't worry about this showing up on a DBS check
I wouldn't suggest writing an apology letter, it won't make much difference.

Re: Primark shoplift DBS check
But I thought it is better to pay upfront. That is what my parents said so there will be no trouble. Especially since we go to that primark often to shop as it is closest. I thought the letter would be good to say sorry just in case they suspect me for entering again.

Re: Primark shoplift DBS check
Why should you pay anything?
You admit you were unsuccessful at shoplifting.
Goods were recovered in a saleable condition by the store, so no loss to them.
The security person was doing the job he was paid to do regardless of your actions, so no extra charges there.
In this country we have systems of law: criminal and civil.
In your case the criminal law was not called upon (no police or criminal charges)
Civil law is there to enable losses to be reclaimed.
Magistrates impose fines in criminal cases, judges impose the amount of recompense in civil cases.
RLP set themselves up as some sort of alternative justice system to line their own pocket.
They are little more than vigilantees acting as judge and jury in their own court and preying on the vulnerable.
They need to be shown no respect whatever.
The courts actually agree with this view.
Last time RLP initiated court action they were spanked by the judge.
They have not ventured there since, and here's a link to the case: http://legalbeagles.info/forums/show...gment-09-05-12

Re: Primark shoplift DBS check
RLP will send you a letter, probably asking for £150 - £200 as compensation for all sorts of costs, which have not been incurred.
They will threaten court action if you don't pay.
They will use all sorts of legalese terms to frighten you.
Now you don't owe them a penny.
You don't owe Primark anything.
Ignore them, Ignore them and ignore them
Why do you think it is a good idea to pay them? What do you think they can do?
Ignore them and they eventually give up.
What trouble is it to put their letters in a drawer, to read and chuckle over in years to come!
If i was to demand £175 from you for telling you this, would you pay it? No, you would ignore me (I hope!)
If you pay them, it will swell their coffers, and they won't write to you again (but you will have given away your money needlessly)
If you ignore them completely, they will write a series of letters, each more threatening, and then give up.
If you want to pay money you could consider ignoring them, but give the money to a charity where it will do some good.

with the number of peeps going in and out of that store, do you really think they will be able to pick you out as the person whose ban has not been lifted as she didn't write apologising?
If you really must go back to that store I would leave it for two or three months.
If challenged just say you thought the ban was only temporary and leave.
They are not going to do anything .... the only claim would be for trespass, but as your visit was causing no damage they would be hard put to it.
Plus how come some people say it is good to just pay and not worry about it?
What is there to worry about?
Just ignore everything.
Answers in red.
The only thing never to ignore are court papers (and you won't see any of those over this incident
