  • Help and advise needed- shoplifting

My brother got caught shoplifting on CCTV in a Tesco store. He was detained by security and admitted to have taken a head set for £10. Police was unable to attend, so the security person said. He was detained for 30 minutes, then they asked him to pay for the item (and he has a receipt for it), banned him for life and let him go. Is that the end of the matter or can he expect some more actions against him? will the police be calling on him, although he gave them the correct name and address, but in his banned letter it is addressed to an unknown first name but the correct surname.
Your advise would be much appreciated, he is worried sick and hope that he has learned his lesson

    Good afternoon, welcome to LB.

I think as the item has now been paid for, no actual police involvement there is
little if anything that will be done now.

There is an organistion called Retail Loss Prevention the stores use to recover " losses"
but they have no legal powers to issue and kind of penalty and are best ignored if they
    should get involved.
I doubt that the police will be interested in this now.

      Thanks Nem.
If it is so, that would be great. It is ofcourse wrong to do what he has done, I sincerely hope that he will never do it again, and I believe that he has learned a life long lesson. Temptations are all around us and it takes a stronger man to resist them.

Indeed so, something like this could blight a young man's life for years!
Hopefully he has " learned his lesson".
