Shoplifting at primark - help!

Hello everyone,

Thank you one and all in advance for all the useful information, I have read some of the threads containing info on this subject but I have noticed that they all mention very low amounts of goods stolen.

I have been caught today stealing, I feel really bad about it, I didn´t even need to do it, I only didn´t want to queue at customer service to change a couple of I items that I had purchased the day before, and since it was crowded as usual, I decided to leave the shop with the unpaid items in my bag. Really stupid decision. :doh:

I was stopped at the exit, and was taken into a room where they searched my bags. I had the receipts and claimed that I had been lazy and that I was very sorry about it, however, they took the unpaid items which summed up to 45 Pounds and told me I would be fined for shoplifting.

They took my picture and banned me for three months from both the shop and the whole shopping centre Westfields.

Is it true that cameras recognize my face? they said that if I came anywhere near the shopping centre area the police would chase me and take me to jail...

I need to pass nearby everyday because it´s on my way home, what should i do?

Being a higher amount than other´s is it still advisable to ignore the letters from RLP?

Will I be taken to court?

thank you, I feel really bad about this and swear I won't be doing it again. I don't want to pay a high fine for such a stupid mistake.

Hi and welcome.
Yep, ignore RLP. (£45 isn't that high anyway!)
Only the courts can issue fines, and if police weren't involved court won't happen
Ignore their threats of being chased by the police and being jailed.
Why would police want to take such violent exercise to up hold a ban from a p*** shop like Primark, and under what agreement do Primark ban people from other shops?
Relax and avoid Primark anyway.

I've got to agree ... if the police were not called (and charged you with something) at the time they won't be bothered now! Don't worry about the cameras either ... it's the silly jumped up eejits behind the ones in Primark that would recognize you (if at all) not the cameras themseves

If you're at all worried about any further letters feel free to post them up, but in all honesty I'd be putting this whole thing down to a 'bad episode' and ignoring

Thank you, they just threaded me saying that cameras from cctv would scan my face, I guess I am naive, but they were really convincing.

I'll ignore the letters and try to avoid the shopping centre...

I doubt Primark's got the money to splash out of face-recognition cctv technology TBH :lol: Feel free to come back any time you want. In fact ... if you get the chance in the future, could you scan/photo copies of any letters you get (if you get any at all) and email them to me kati@legalbeagles.info ... I'd like to do a new RLP thread showing people what to expect ?! xx

Sorry to bother you! First of all I got your email from a forum on the internet!

Today at primark they stopped me and got me in to a room accusing me of stealing....
I tried to explain to the security guy that I got distracted .... and wasn’t having any intention of stealing anything ! Never stole anything in my life! Had no basked and the few items I have got were in the pushchair.... on my way to the pay till bumped in to a friend and starting chatting after that turned to the exit instead of the till ! That’s when the guy stopped me .... they asked for my id , took a picture of me.... and said that I will receive a letter with a fine.... I said I wanna pay everything now as I wasn’t intended to steal anything, o was just distracted.... the items cost like £30 and the security guy said that the gain will be over £100 ....
what should I do? He said they will take me to court if I fail responding to the letter and pay the fine.... the guy even said to come back to him with the letter and he will help me out answer the questions and solve the problem somehow cos he has pity for me... he understands my situation but that’s he’s job!
Please tell me what to do.... if I receive any letter!

Hi Shally ... it's still advised that you ignore any letters. Don't even think about court (rlp haven't taken anyone to court since the Oxford case - des8 ostell do you have a link for it please?)
