  • False accusation letter

Hi All. Bit of a strange one but completely out of the blue I have received at letter from RLP alleging my involvement in some sort of shoplifting incident last week at a major retailer in my nearest city. I've had no involvement whatsoever in any such incident at any time and have not been to any branch of the store or the city itself in months. I'm not sure what if anything I need to do to clear my name.

    Just ignore them ...
RLP will almost certainly send you further letters (some of them threatening from what I've read on various forums) but the consensus is file them in the bin

if you have not been stopped for shoplifting, not been questioned by the police or taken to court then they have nothing they can use against you!

I agree with filing the RLP letters in the bin, however I would contact the police and check with them if your name and details are on their radar, as it may be that someone who was stopped for shoplifting has given your name and address. You could also go and speak to the manager of the store in question to check they aren't holding any record of 'you' and no ban from the store is in place. They should also call off RLP for you.

I would'nt use the round file just yet . I would follow the advice just given and use the voice recording device on your phone when talking to the store manager. Ask them to confirm the details that you have no involvement in writing .Go and talk to the police. Take official ID to prove who you are. I say this as if there was actually an incident . of shop theft and your name and address were given by a third party there could be a case of mistaken Identity. Once all that is done send copies of the letters to RLp. That should call them off. Don't use the phone people of this nature have extremely selective memories and can be very sharp.
