Is there anything more irritating than an ever-increasing price of a pint, now Ł5 is not unusual in London?

At the very least, I would think, it would be a good practice to update your bar tariffs accordingly.

I know many will say it's not a big deal but I think it is as I don't want to be taken for a ride, be it just an administration error!

Its unlawful to charge more than what is stated on the bar tariff. Just like a shop can not charge you more for an item than what is on the price ticket.

Just try to tell bar staff or the manager that and, guess what, you risk getting banned!

Yeah a manager at a well know pub company tried that with me, i refused to leave, so they called the police. God did they regret calling the police lol - Safe to say i didn't get barred (as warned them id make a formal complaint about their conduct to their head office if they barred me) and from the moment after the police scolded them, and ordered them to refund all effected customers currently in the bar with he correct change compared to what they paid, they made sure the price on the till matched the price on the tariff and there table and bar brochures! Not to mention the forced grovelling apology the manager gave me lol

Yeah i'd had a bad day that day, so i made sure that 20 year old manager on a power trip was put firmly back in his place and new who was the real boss lol!

but if you discover the higher price at the checkout the shop does not have to sell to you at the lower price.
If you refuse the higher price, the shop can just decline to sell the item to you.

Yes that's true. Its the same for online purchases also, where the price paid for the item is not the right price and it should have been a higher price, the online retailer can inform you and request additional funds or cancel the transaction and refund the payment (or decline the payment if there system is set up to only authorise payments but not capture payment at time of order being placed.

Just different for pubs and restaurants though, as your usually charged after you have eaten or after the pint has been pulled. So its not as easy to put the product back on the shelf so to speak.
