I think you do the youth of today no favours by concentrating on a minority who upset you.

I also think we are now well off topic and if we want to continue this discussion we should transfer to the Lamp Post.
    Hi Des,
I have nothing against the vast majority of youth of today.
Most of them are great kids, and I use the word kids lightly.
I have seven grand-kids and as far as I'm aware, they are all OK.
Three are working, three are at college, and the other one is in senior school.
Maybe I have been lucky, but I like to think that how I bought my kids up, has somehow rubbed off on them and they bought their kids up along similar lines.
And the bit about community service, was my idea of a joke mate:tinysmile_twink_t2:
Where I live in North London, the local papers are full of stories of theft, stabbings, sexual assault etc.
Last week, we had two murders, three stabbings and other crimes within a five mile radius.
So yes, I am concerned about kids, especially my kids and grand-kids.
And pussy footing around with those kids who commit crimes, does not help ease the problem.
They just grow up thinking that it is OK to rob people, deal in drugs, or use violence to get their own way in the world.
Because there is always someone who will bail them out.
But it does have a knock on effect on the community.
Maybe in your part of the country it's different, but it will spread mate.
Where I live was once a decent place to live in.
Now the streets are full of litter, dumped furniture, and other rubbish.
No-one seems to want to do anything about it. And it definitely has got worse over the last ten years.
Another problem we have now, is the changing community.
We now have a large proportion of immigrants in this area.
Pushed together in one area by the council, there is no integration into the community.
How can you integrate when the only person in the house that speaks some English, is a seven year old kid.
I have to disagree that we are off the topic.
    Theft was the topic mate.

But some are not so nice

Hmm, I think the topic is about what to do when you receive a letter from RLP.

There is no moral or sociological motivation for these invoices, they do not care about the rights or wrongs no matter what they may say, in fact just the opposite, their business model depends on peoples unfortunate tendencies to make silly decisions and do uncharacteristic silly things.

Serious shoplifters are dealt with by the police,as they should be.

And in this case, the police were not even called - the OP and her boyfriend handed back the items, so there was no loss to the store. It would be interesting to know how far RLP are willing to push it tho' ... bearing in mind it would cost them far more to arrange a doorstep visit by a DCA. I also wonder if they asked for £s in their letter (or Euros) :tinysmile_twink_t2:

Thanks for letting us know, and trust telling your parents was not too traumatic.

Pity about paying an unjustified penalty, but it will save you a lot of stress

I'm glad you got it sorted (although I would be upset about having to pay their charges)
