Hi, I am very ashamed of what I did and I am in treatment for psychological problems (which influence me, although it is not an excuse). They caught me stealing in a store and they told me that they would ban me from all their stores. My problem is that I work for another store of the same brand (where it never occurred to me to steal anything) and in the end my ban was only from that particular store and they said that maybe they were going to call my manager in a few days. They have my details.

Should I resign immediately? If I do, can my case escalate and it be difficult to find a new job?

Could you give me some advice, please? I'm really ashamed .

    Hi JUSTME56

Try not to worry. What was the value of the goods?

What does your employee handbook say?

How likely are they to speak to your manager?

Have you thought of speaking to your manager?

      Hi Echat11,

      The value was £40.

The store manager was not there at the time they caught me, another manager told me that I had to scalate it with him and that he would call to me before to call my store, but I don't know if trust with this information.

I am scared that if I find another job and ask for reference to my manager, I could be in trouble.

      Thank you.

You could tell your manager what happened, then resign, see what he / she says, but ultimately it's up to you.

I am working there 8 months.

I prefer not to say anything, and at least keep some friends there.

              Thanks for the information.

If your branch is informed of the situation then potentially they will take disciplinary action against you and given the circumstances, even though it happened at another store it may be considered as gross misconduct and this could lead to you being dimissed. With less than 2 years service you can be dismissed without them following any procedure.

Alternatively you can hand in your notice and hope that your branch is not informed of the situation.

                Thanks for your advice,

I sent my resignation letter. Do you know if they can do an investigation or do a dismiss of anything now? I mean, if I am not working any more for them.

                Thanks in advance

Have you resigned by giving the appropriate length of notice? If so how long are you required to give.
