  • Shamed moment in B & Q

So today, I got caught putting screws into my daughters bag & a whole big bag of screws on the top of the pushchair!

The screws on the top of the pushchair was a genuine accident as we swapped for a little shopping trolley for a big trolly to place wood on which we brought, that & paint! The reason why I forgot about the pushchair screws is my delightful 2yr old daughter opened some paint and got it over her so had to wash it off and she was getting upset. Got caught when we went outside, brought back into the trade dept and was asked for good back, gave them back but said I really do what to purchase the big bag of screws. He said he had to get the manager and ask her. He took my photo and a copy of my driving provisional licence. No police was called they said this was a warning and to expect a civil recovery letter to pay for the cost of the goods. She wouldn't let me buy the screws I actually did need. She said I'm not banned it's just a warning, no police was called (phew) but should I do it again then I'm screwed!!(excuse the pun)

    I suppose my questions are
    1) what happens next, does my photo get sent around all nearest shops about me shoplifting or is it for there own personal naughty wall in the office to keep an eye out for?
    2) what should I expect about a civil recovery letter (this is all new to me & I was so embarrassed & my child screaming I didn't ask).
    3) is this put on any type of record that u need to declare?
    4) holy shit I am shitting it, never done this before, dont know what came over me, yeah alright I'm dealing with alot (13 yr old son suicidal over a bully at school) but that's no excuse I'm an adult... is it wrong I just wanna cry!! I'm so ashamed & embarrassed, thank god my other children wasnt with me!

They will probably file your photo.
AFAIK B&Q don't use facial recognition software, and no one is going to be keeping an eye out for you.
There will no record of this (other than with B&Q) and you do not have to declare the incident to anyone.

The civil recovery letter(s) can be ignored
They are just unwarranted demands for money from an outfit called Retail Loss Prevention
They can be quite scary so read them here before they plop down on your doormat.
    You'll then be prepared https://legalbeagles.info/forums/for...rs-rlp-and-dwf

Now is time to purchase your big bag of screws elsewhere, look after your family and get on with your life.
You are not the first to make a small mistake whilst under intense pressure

Goes no further than a series of threatening letters.
Sometimes these firms pass it to a debt collector, but they have no power anyway so can be ignored as well.

Hello, I had a New letter received today!

Saying we are disappointed to note that despite our attempts to contact you you have failed to resolve this matter and therefore the issue remains outstanding please note that we cannot assist you if you ignore our correspondence.
unfortunately if we do not hear from you in order to obtain an amicable resolution within 28 days from this date at the letter we will have no alternative but to refer this case back to our clients advising them of the option to proceed with call action in order to recover their losses.
Why should I respond to this notice about ccj, enforcement agents etc etc

Is this the normal tactics they use? I cant upload the letter due to the size etc

              Thank you

                Quite normal!
They are a debt recovery service who set themselves up as experts, but now in a final last gasp effort are threatening to go back to their client and admit they failed..

B&Q aren't going to do anything over a packet of screws they didn't even lose.

Upload to a hosting site such as imgur and put a link to it in here.

What can they do? There has been no loss, the goods stayed in store and security staff would have been paid even if you weren't there.
