  • Silly mistake of first time shoplifting

I am currently having CBT therapy and on anti depressants and mental state is not great I did something really stupid and out of character I shoplifted over £100 work of clothes from primark by mistake they have given me a slip that I will get a fine in the post and also they didn't call the police but they reported the crime

I wanted to ask if this has any bearing if I want to have a DBS check done for future jobs? This is the first and last time it's happened

Hi thanks for the advice just another thing on my mind:

can police issue warnings or cautions through the post or after the event. Is it possible to get this later on after the event still as you are getting a rlp letter?

Or or do the police have to present face to face with the person to issue the warning or caution?

A caution cannot be given unless you accept it.
Never accept a caution without your solicitor's advice

Thanks and that acceptance is always with the police face to face not over a phone call or with security if the store or shopping centre?

. Cautions are issued by the police at a police station.
A caution can only be offered to someone who has admitted guilt to the police
A caution will not be offered if you do not agree to accept it

STOP WORRYING.....You will make yourself ill.
It is not worth it for such a small incident

Thanks I know part of my mental health issue is I suffer from acute anxiety disorder and ptsd that’s why when they looked at that they let me go with the ban which I can live without it’s just I’m really mindful of my current job which requires an enhanced dbs that’s why I just want nothing to ruin my career over 1 stupid mistake just feel I might get something through the post like a PND notice or something

i know now I need to stop worrying thankful for all the advice

Good morning all I just have a question I came across a conversation I had with a colleague who’s a police officer and he mentioned if your job requires enhanced crb checks (which mine does) that even if the police did not attend on site but as I was mentioned in the crime reference number that they will still have my details on file and it can come up on checks and might count as dishonesty I’m really scared as my job is everything to me and I don’t want work to find out and also when doing enhanced crb checks can this info come up?

He he also mentioned that the people who do police checks determine wether to tell employers or not??

In your first post you said "they didn't call the police" then you say " but they reported the crime" ... what do you mean by that ? taking your details and saying they were sending them to whoever and you'd get a 'fine' ?

Have you heard anything from anyone since the incident in May ?

ok on the other thread you said

they supposedly phoned the police as they had a reference number and was giving them my description of how I look so that’s why I was wondering if it was recorded anywhere and then they supposedly phoned back to tell the police not to come as I had been honest with them and cooperated with them
