Airport security use bio metric iris scanners, which is many times more accurate than facial recognition technology..

Interestingly (or perhaps frighteningly Orwellian) a number of UK police forces are trailing facial recognition.
There are reports that it is not very successful,

initially I thought that not being sent a letter from RLP meant that they are taking this more seriously and my case is now with the police who is looking at CCTV footage and pulling a report against me to send to the court ... but that's just me being silly, right?

Right okay, so facial recognition isn't very successful anyway - that's reassuring. I guess if this was a 2-3 year ban then I would not even think to go into the store again but as it is a lifetime ban it's a lot harder to get used to the idea I won't ever be allowed in their store again in my life which is why I am trying to understand how likely it is for their cameras to read my face and recognise me and throw me out. Thanks so much for your help x

Just picturing you sneaking about in M&S dressed up like Timmy Mallet and trying to explain your new look to your mum

Loads of articles about on CCTV and facial recognition - but don't make yourself too paranoid over it, all that would happen if it was in use, and you did get 'spotted', was they'd ask you to leave.

not like a drastic change of appearance I just meant like if I was to wear a pair of sunglasses or a big hat or something.

that might look a bit dodgy, but I'd expect normal sunglasses would probably combat lower level facial recognition ( which you don't even know if they have ) Do the SAR to M&S - you'll know then if they even have your details anywhere. You don't have to say what it's for they'll just have to tell you any data they hold that relates to you as an individual.

I don't like the idea of hiding from the store for my entire life as if i was a criminal, I know stores can ban anyone and theres not much I can do about it now, its just still very hard to get used to it sorry if my ideas seem a bit irrational or stupid

oh really would i not have to state the reason why i am asking for this, would they not be suspicious and try and find out why i'm asking as they prob wouldnt get this request from many people? I don't want to stir things up as when they'll find out why I've asked they might contact RLP and start sending me letters if they realise my address was typed in incorrectly or whatever it is that happened? At the same time it'd be great to know what kind of info they actually hold but don't want to make the situation worse.

You can't just carry on as you are doing or you'll drive yourself batty, so even if they decide to get RLP or Drydens or anyone to send a letter, it's going to be better than you constantly worrying and beating yourself up about it xxxx

thanks for the link, alright say that I do write to them and they reply telling me exactly what info they have on me. The only way this would help is if they replied and said my records are not on the system. Because if my records are on the system and my face is being scanned every time I go into their store then I'll start worrying even more and the situation will probably be even harder to deal with.

Thanks for all the advice and your help, but now I have some thinking to do - ah.

so I am driving myself crazy especially now that my case is 'usual' in the sense that I haven't been contacted by RLP or anyone else; just going through possible scenarios in my head:

                          1. Like you said someone forgot to enter my details on to the system (that would be amazing!!)
                          2. RLP have my details but they're being slow (possible but that would be very unusual of them)
                          3. They are taking proceedings against me and the court is in the process of issuing me a letter (9 weeks after it happened?! not sure how their system works)
                          4. The court has issued me a letter already but it's gone to the wrong address the address that M&S gave them which is why the letters haven't been coming to my house and this will escalate into something major as you can't ignore court papers.

I know that last time a store took court action they lost heavily but maybe they've changed their mind and think they have a chance now.

1&2 I could deal with, 3&4 are not letting me sleep properly.

If they are taking you to court they are obliged, by the court procedures, to send you a letter first to say that they are and for what to enable you to respond. The police will not be interested as it is too long after the event and M & S have lost nothing.

Even if letters are going to the wrong house, which I very much doubt, then that is recoverable because before they issued the letters they should have followed the required process and ascertained that you lived at that address.

There is no way M & S are going to take action in court. Their legal costs, which they won't be able to recover, would be in the £1,000s and it is not worth it for them when they haven't actually lost anything, which is another reason that they couldn't, even if they wanted to, make a claim.

ostell Thank you, I just don’t understand how they haven’t got the right address, I gave them my driving licence and they used it to fill out a form with my details, so it just doesn’t make sense. But thanks for the reassurance.
