  • Shoplifting Tesco

I got stopped by undercover store detective today and taken to a small room. On walking round Tesco with a shopping bag rather than a trolley, my phone had rang when I was down an aisle. The conversation was about when I was going to see my nans burial plot (she died 3 months ago) and lived 3.5 hrs away. The conversation threw me and got me thinking about my nana again, and I continued to think about it for the rest of my trip round Tesco. Totally oblivious to what I was doing, I picked two tins of cat food off shelf and put them in my pocket instead of my shopping bag. I then continued to a till and paid for me goods, not realising there was a Nutella chocolate pot in the bottom of my bag which I hadn't put on the conveyor belt.
I continued to walk out and then forgot I needed a lettuce so went to grab one and qued up at customer service to pay, stood there staring into space for 5 mins, I put the lettuce in my bag and walked out , again totally oblivious to the fact I hadn't paid for it and totally forgot about the cat food in my pocket. Needless to say I got stopped at the door and taken to the room where they totalled the goods upto I think £3.60 . They said the police won't be called but they will be pursuing me for a fine which has to be paid. I tried explaining that I was miles away cos of the phone call I had but they weren't interested. They asked for my name and address and said I was banned for 6 months and will get a fine through the post. I had to sit down in the room because I felt dizzy because I'm pregnant . It's also bought on an anxiety attack. They escorted me out of store and told me I had to pay I had no choice. I'm now awaiting the letter . I'm so worried but I don't want to get stressed as it will effect my pregnancy.

    B****Y Tescos again!

    Hi and welcome.

First things first, cease worrying and enjoy (?) your pregnancy. (You can tell I'm a mere male!)

    Tescos cannot fine you.
In this country we have a court system where judges issue fines, not Tescos
In view of your condition it is quite possible that the security man over stepped the mark anyway, but that is now past.

What will happen is a firm (probably Retail Loss Prevention) will write to you asking for payment of about £150 for all the problems you have caused Tesco.
What you have to do is completely ignore them
They will write to you again, and again and again.
Each letter will be full of legalese, and threatening court action.
Some may be written in red letters.
    IGNORE them all
It will not go to court (they lost heavily last time they tried) and eventually the letter stream dries up.
