The letter from the store to you delivered by the police has me concerned. The police don't usually act as messenger boys, indeed I would have thought that would have been against the rules. Were they uniformed police officers?

Anyway do not respond to RLP unless they really start a court case, which would mean them sending you a letter before action. In that case come back here for help.

Reading post 1 it seems the OP was picked up by the police outside the store.
Presumably the store alerted the police.
I would assume OP gave the police her name and address.
I wouldn't be too concerned about police giving OP a sheet of paper advising that she would be contacted by RLP
RLP only made contact AFTER being contacted by OP by email.
This is why RLP have sent OP an email.
OP can now expect lots of spam from RLP, but probably no snail mail as RLP probably don't have her address.

Read post 6 where it says

I worked in another store in the shopping centre and the police came into my work and took me through the back. I had no contact with any member of staff or security in the store I stole from.

I emailed RLP after the incident as the store had given the police a letter to give to me explaining RLP would be in contact. The police gave me a written warning and said that no further action would be taken. I am scared that if I ignore the emai and don't pay they will take me to court.

Hi again,
I am feeling extreamly worried and upset as I have received more emails from RLP.
The most recent being one stating I have provided a fauls adress and that this is a criminal offence. As I had no contact with anyone in the store the only people I gave my adress to was the police and it was my current adress. I had only recently moved here about a month before this all happened. They then go on to say that a dept recover agent will actively trace me if I do not provide the correct adress and in worried. My old adress was with my parents and I haven't told them of the situation and my fear is that they turn up to my old adress. I'm so scared and struggling to cope. Am I going to go to court and will my parents find out? Will dept collectors turn up at their or my door??

Please help me! I have no one to talk to about this and I'm feeling so alone and scared!

As they believe the address you gave (your parents address here you lived at the time) is false they (or their debt collectors) are unlikely to go there in an effort to trace you.
To be honest, it is not difficult to trace people, but to me this sounds like more scare tactics than anything else.
The problem is that you contacted RLP and they read this as vulnerability, and consequently apply pressure however they can (even implying a threat of criminal procedures which is not within their remit).

I gave them the adress I am staying in now so I am unsure as to why it is false?? I didn't give my old adress but I'm just worried that they will arrive at my old adress and my parents will find out! It sounds bad but it would be bad if they found out. I'm so disappointed in myself and I'm still not sure why I did what I did and I'm struggling to get over it and move on! I know it's impossible to say but do you think I will be taken to court and do the dept collectors send letters or do they visit your home?

Do you think this will eventually end or should I pay it? It seems like a lot of money to pay for something so out of character for me and I can garentee that the emotional trauma and Shame will ensure I am never this stupid again.

RLP do not have (since the Oxford case) a record of taking people to court for shoplifting.
On that basis it is most unlikely that any court proceedings will be initiated against you.
If you do ever receive genuine court papers you will receive full support.

Why they should suggest you gave a false address I can't imagine.
I don't suppose you could have made a typographical error when inputting eg the postcode, or perhaps they have lost their records?
Anyway I wouldn't suggest helping them out directly, but I suppose you could ask them via email to confirm the address they hold for you already.
I wonder if anyone else has suggestions.

RLP knows full well that the Oxford case blows them out of the water; they just hope that people are not aware of it, & they then trade on fear & insecurity.
