We purchased a second hand car from a private seller. It had 65000 miles on the clock, a valid MOT and the HPI check came back clear. With the V5 slip in our possession we were able to look at its full MOT history (my partner was keen to know if it had any past fails/what kind of things may have been advisory)
However the history check has revealed a mileage discrepancy. In 2011 the car was recorded as having 105,000 miles on the clock. It was retested 2 months later with a mileage of zero. This seems to indicate that the car actually has 170,000 miles on it not 65,000.
We have made the person that we bought it from aware and he is denying all knowledge, therefore we are considering taking action via the Small Claims Court. The seller has not yet sent the new owner slip off and we wondered if there is a way to intercept this via the DVLA?
I'd really appreciate any hints, tips or similar experiences that anyone has!
Thank you
