Only a minor irritation but as a tenant of a social landlord I receive every 3 months a glossy newsletter telling me things I have no need off (help with debt and finding a job amongst other trivia like quizzes). I have asked on numerous occasions to be taken off the mailing list both verbally and in writing and once again this has been ignored. I don't recall being asked to opt in or out and am wondering if there is anything I can do legally or otherwise to get this stopped. I know I can just recycle but if I've asked politely then surely this should be honoured??

Re: Unwanted mail from landlord
Thanks - I've just checked from cover to cover and it seems to be dealt with in-house - any requests for large print etc to Head Office. I have emailed the customer service centre and the editor so would they not have passed this on?? There is the name of the Chief Exec in this issue tho! :santa_wink:

Re: Unwanted mail from landlord
Did you threaten them with a complaint to the information commissioners officer for breach of data protection act section 10 i.e. refusing to remove you from their mailing list upon your formal writting requests to do so?
If your out of work, or struggling with debts etc - You should tell them you find the newsletter to be distressing and belittling, you know your out of work, and are trying your best to find work and you know you have debts and are struggling to keep up. So you do not need to be reminded of those facts by a monthly newsletter you never opted in to receive and have quite clearly made it clear your wish for them to not send them to you.
Question is, is it addressed directly too you or to the occupier? Please note that this advice is given informally, without liability and without prejudice. Re: Unwanted mail from landlord
I get a similar newsletter from my council every few months too. Ours is posted by hand through the door, it isn't addressed and mailed out so it is just every council house that gets one.
I have a flick through and red bin it usually. Sometimes they have hints that they are planning to do work like upgrade front doors / bathrooms etc in. But then they hinted over a year ago they were going to switch baths for showers and nothings happened yet so it's not the most useful publication in the world. The articles about debt, finding a job, not taking drugs, recipes and quizzes in it are rather basic but I'm sure some people find it useful. I don't find it offensive though.#staysafestayhome
Any support I provide is offered without liability, if you are unsure please seek professional legal guidance.

Re: Unwanted mail from landlord
Thank you for the responses its addressed to me personally - I don't find it offensive just a waste of paper and postage - the articles are the opposite - I have a job and aren't in debt - and I can understand how they could be useful to other tenants but the issue is I don't want to receive it! Ill email again with the data protection details and hopefully that will work. Thanks againLast edited by jorainbow; 16th December 2014, 08:03:AM.

Re: Unwanted mail from landlord
I may be totally wrong but I think they have a duty to keep you informed of what's happening or has happened with the houses they rent out.
Also to provide info on any help you may need now or in the future.
I would also think keeping people up to date quarterly and all on the same level is a lot cheaper than having to deal with every tenant on an individual basis on things they may or may not want to know.
