  • Re: Trades Gateway cancellation Help Please

I've been reading his thread for sometime now, and the one thing that comes up time and time again s that the course is not delivering what was promised.
Peeps are then trying to cancel, and of course can't.
Perhaps the way forward would be to rescind the contract through Misrepresentation., and as that (if successful) puts everything back to the start the claimant gets all his fees back, and any other costs would have to be picked up by Trades Gateway (including financial fees)
    Just my meanderings!

Without reading back through 6 pages of posts can anyone tell me if this course has any practical on the job training or is it all written work.

A manager of a Heating company says without experience they would not employ anyone who gained a qualification by reading only.

I'm in the same boat when I was looking for work last year and they got in touch talking about a plumbing course and they'd come in and speak with me tomorrow at this point I hadn't been told about the costs or the format of the course or I would have ignored it all together so he came round saying this is a great opportunity for me and usually the don't accept under 25's and how their was only a few places left of the course and how bad it was to be unemployed and how I wouldn't be able to find work or a collage course he then played a DVD which explains the course and he began telling me that 97% of people complete the course and he'll be back tomorrow to see what I had decided to do I was still unsure but he pressed me saying I could have it paid off within a year as I would be a professional plumber most likely and how its better than being unemployed but I had too make my mind up fast as he was in a hurry to go to meet someone else and if I didn't sign up my position would be given to someone else as I was reading the paperwork he said just sign here and I carried on reading but he was starting to get impatient saying he was in a hurry and had to go something I can tell now he set up the day before when I was unsure and started asking questions the day before so he said he had to go and he'll try to squeeze me tomorrow as usually its sorted out the same day but I thought he was being nice and put me at ease about the potential hard sell but what he was doing was making it look like he was doing me a favour and he didn't need to give me the hard sell but then give me the hard sell the day after which I can see is common practice for trades gateway I was also told the course would cost a little over £3,000 when I asked how much by a little he said no more the a £100 it turns out the course is £3,900 after a year of paying for nothing I finally found out how much the course was as another company they sold the debt to got into contact Career Development Loan were in contact telling me how much I paid and how much I still owed as a yearly thing however I was told I would have been sent all the paperwork within 2-3days explaining the costs and T&C'S I Have yet to receive this information plus I got told I would have had a tutor get in contact with me that as yet to happen also I had trouble signing in and tried to ring but no answer however I rang the person who tricked me into signing up for this waste of time and said it was something to do with my payment which had gone in but wasn't In time and would be ok within a month and my tutor would be also be in touch with me then as well so I did same result then only contact I've had with trades gateway since is the automated message reminding me I haven't submitted my Trades Gateway Coursework once a month which is impossible anyways as I cant access the site and only got in once right at the beginning then I rang and I got the whole payment hadn't gone in on time lies even though I had access to the site once already and with things being the way they are now I just want to cancel payment and if possible get a refund as I didn't get what I was sold is their anything I can do

I'm just about to phone Career Finance 4 Trade Skills but not sure if I should phone the Citizens Advice Bureau first. I would like to get the repayments reduced but not sure on how the company will react. I'm trying to save up for a flat and feel that the money I'm paying could go a long way in helping me save. I don't know whether to still phone the company or send them a letter.

Hmmm, wish I'd done more research before signing up myself. 4 months in and I've only done about 4 TMA's on the electricians course. I have 2 reasons for wanting to cancel, the first being financial, I simply cannot afford it and my job is no longer secure. The second being that I have stalled, it has bored me to tears, all regulations!, and I have realised I have no interest. Maybe if I was in a classroom and interspersing the course with regular practical (not just the 4 weeks in the year the course offers) I'd be doing better.
I'm usually sensible, when he said I had 30 days to cancel I mis-interpreted and thought he meant the enrolment process etc, not that I would not be able to back out for the 3+ years the course takes. I am also staggered by what I've read here and what I've read in my paperwork. If I can get the course cancelled (if!) I am failing to see why they wouldn't then refund the loan company. That they appear to keep the course fees is astonishing. Really, really glad I didn't agree to the further qualification I thought with education etc they tended to be a little more flexible, after all sometimes you make the wrong career choice, seems unfair to be stuck with it when you've already paid for what you've done.
I suppose with £3500 left to pay I could do it as a credit card payment and just shift the balance round for as long as possible, but, it will be easier to see if I can get the repayments reduced and either continue the course myself or wait until I can find someone whose willing to take over...

And sorry I don't know what CCF means? Have a fixed sum loan agreement contract that they left on the 11th of July

My son has the same problem with Caledonian Finance with an alleged £5,700.00. outstanding bill, the man only made one home visit and left a few dvd's and a few books, my son quickly realised that the course just was not a viable prospect, it just couldn't work so he attempted to cancel but never had any emails or phone numbers to get in touch with.

I am advising my son to totally ignore the finance company apart from ringing them and telling them that if they have released money to Trade Gateway then that is their own problem, the fact is that no services have been given.

No one is expected to pay for something that they have never received. The best thing that could happen here is for the finance company take legal court action where we would then be in a position to explain to the court the true facts, the judge could not agree to pay for something that you have never had.

Whatever the circumstances here the most important thing to do is never send any further payments even if, unlike my son, any payments have already been made, just don't pay any more, if they are chasing siblings who live with parents, as my son does, then the chances are they do not own anything anyway, but even if they did they would have to take it to court to get a court order so just send a letter to the finance company so that if it did go to court, which is very unlikely, you would then have a copy of the letter to produce in court.

The finance company have been threatening my son since before christmas, he only signed up in the previous September so how can he amass a £5,700.00 bill? they then never got in touch from the end of January and last week they sent another threatening letter which they are hoping will scare my son into paying little bit's of the money, but you must never fall for that one when they will give you the option of 'easy payments' they are not entitled to any of this money so they will not be getting any, but they will attempt to frighten people, which lots of people who are not familiar with the way finance companies work will take, what they will believe to be the safest and easiest payment offer. just do not pay any amount..

Don't pay any more money mate, you don't owe them anything, work it out for yourself why would any one be liable to pay for something that they have never recieved

I enrolled in this course about a year ago.
From a first impression, I sniffed the air of fraud, but I thought it could serve me a certificate to work as an electrician.
Their program in 3D that was included in the course, it never worked, the program is obsolete and primitive.
When at the beginning of the course I explained that the program was not working they said they were having problems, and after almost a year and was not possible to install it.
I asked the school, and the finance many times, that I wanted my cancellation from the course, but they responded with a threatening manner that was not possible.
After almost a year I decided to go to the bank and close the standing payment. I never paid for anything that has the flavor of a swindle.

CCJ = County Court Judgement. If there is no CCJ, then the calls you are getting may well be from a Debt Collection Agency (DCA). They have less powers than a certified bailiff
