  • Problem with Direct Warranties

Hi All, can anyone help me please

I am having a problem getting my TV fixed through a lifetime repair/replace warrantee purchased from Sky Media UK/Direct Warranties.

I purchased a Technica 22" LCD TV DVD iPod on 18/01/2009 from Tesco Direct. At the same time I bought a Lifetime repair/replace warranty from Sky Media UK/Direct Warranties details of which were in the box that contained the TV. The lifetime warranty is for at least 8 years so should last until 2017.

I have had to claim on this warranty 3 times in the past, all for the same recurring fault - TV will not turn on, keeps going into standby mode. The same fault reoccurred recently, approximately 1st March 2014. At that time I contacted Direct Warranties via email, which is the only form of communication that they now provide, explaining the fault and attaching a copy of the purchase receipt and PDF of the lifetime warranty. These were the exact same 'proofs' that I had emailed to them on the 3 previous occasions.

I heard nothing from them for over a fortnight. I resent the original email to them and again heard nothing, so after waiting another fortnight I emailed them saying I would have to contact Trading Standards if they did not arrange repair of my TV. I then received an email from them saying the Warranty PDF I had attached was not the Warranty but the terms and conditions of the warranty. This was the only thing I have ever had off them with regard to the lifetime warranty and I emailed back telling them this pointing out it had been sufficient to allow 3 previous repairs. I also requested that they send me a copy of the lifetime warranty I had purchased from them and I would then use this 'complete version' of the warranty in the future.

They keep ignoring my emails asking for a copy of my warranty, they just keep replying saying they can do nothing until I send them my warranty

I have tried phoning them but all I get is a pre-recorded message informing me they only deal with emails!

I managed to find a phone number for Sky Media UK. Upon phoning them they informed me they could do nothing until authorized by Direct Warranties.

    What can I do?

The PDF of the warrantee I have they say is not sufficient even though it is the only one they have ever sent to me and has been sufficient in the past
They will not send me a copy of the warrantee I purchased and they say I need.
They will not answer any of my emails asking them for a copy of my warrant or how I can go about getting a copy, (all of which are courteous and polite).

The problem is compounded by the fact I also have another lifetime warranty with them for my 32" Technica LCD TV bought December 2011 and the lifetime warranty PDF they sent me is 'corrupted' and will not open. This means that if I ever have to claim for this TV they may also refuse to honour their commitment as the PDF can not be opened.

I would really appreciate your advice on this matter as I feel I have hit a virtual brick wall.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you, CluelessNo1

    Re: Problem with Direct Warranties

Is the Direct Warranties company - http://www.direct-warranties.co.uk/

If so, you need to contact them directly and explain what has been going on and ask them for a copy of your warranty agreement. Tesco's should also have a copy of the agreement too since they were the point of sale merchant.

A sar to them should produce the warranty.

        Hi Tea Boy 2,
Thank you for taking the time to reply to my problem.
I have already done what you suggest, I think it was about 3 weeks ago. It has got me nowhere.

          Hi Seduraed,
I have done as you have suggested, (once I found out what a SAR was, I found out in the FAQs). I have sent it to their email address and to their 'contact us' page on their website. So, I will now cross my fingers for the 40 days they have to give me the information I need, namely my TV repair warranties.
Thanks so much for responding to my problem and for your advice.
          All the best,

            Hi Again,
Well, the SAR did not work in getting me copies of my 2 warranties All they sent me was a very faded copy of a repair receipt.
Any further ideas of how I can get Direct Warranties to give me copies of my TV repair warranties when they clearly do not want me to have them?
            All the best,
