  • asda online shopping

    Just a quick question.

I placed an order for my groceries, payment had been authorised (was enough money in the account) and my shopping was delivered the next day in the time slot I booked.

now I have had an email from asda asking me to contact them to make payment for this order, now surely if it hadn't paid for my order surely they wouldn't have delivered it.

I don't have online banking so can't check my statements out until tomorrow.

I received my order that payment had been authorised for so if they haven't taken the money surely that's not my fault and It could be taken as a gift?

I probably spend 300 quid a month in there so I wouldn't say no to a freebie ha ha

No your order can not be taken or deemed as a gift under unsolicited goods under distance selling regulations. As you had, in fact, ordered them. Only time you can take goods delivered to you as unsolicited goods is when you did not order them, nor committed to any contract, where in this case you have.

Unfortunately, until you get hold of your bank statement tomorrow, their is little anyone can do to help you. As the key to this issue is knowing whether they had taken payment for the goods or not.

What bank are you with by the way? As some banks let you set up online banking over the internet or via the phone and such phone lines are usually open on Sundays for some banks. Check your banks website for details on setting up online banking. Then after setting it up and viewing your account, or after getting a statement from your bank tomorrow, come back and let us know if payment was made or not.

Its important to note, that they may have deferred your card payment, which means when you gave your card details to make payment, you merely authorised them to take the sums due to cover the bill - That is authorisation, but it may have been a day or two later when they tried to capture the sums you had authorised them to take, and during that time, you may have had direct debits taken out reducing your balance to a sum less than the sum you had authorised asda to take. In which case when asda tried to capture the sums you authorised them to take, the bank refused due to not enough funds in your account.

MY own company website uses deferred payment method for card transactions, its basically means the card holder has authorised my company to take the agreed sums in payment, but it also requires my company to agree to take the sums by capturing them. deferred payments is usual for spotting fraudulent or high fraud risk transaction based on fraud score provided by the card processing company to the retailer. It means, until the retailer captures the funds, no money is taken from your card. There has been a number of times when customers have ordered from us and we have tried to capture funds only for there not to be enough funds available on the customers card or bank account in case of debit card being used.

Asda have merely sent the goods prior to capturing the funds, or for some reason you bank reversed the transaction. Unfortunately, until you get your statement and can see if funds were taken, then there no way of knowing whether you have paid for the goods or not.
