  • AA Roadside recovery

I recently had a car breakdown andcalled the AA (Gold member 8+ years etc). The AA proudly boast inmuch of their promotional material and even in recent correspondenceto me that their
number 1 aim is to get their customersstarted at the roadside.

Obviously there will betimes when this isn't possible and I absolutely get that butunfortunately on this occasion they simply didn't try – AT ALL!!They sent a recovery vehicle and no mechanic. My car was taken to alocal garage. Fortunately for me the problem was a sensor fault andwas ridiculously easy to spot and fix for any trained mechanic with adiagnostic kit. Unfortunately for me I have had to pay the localgarage £55 for their trouble. If the AA had sent a trained mechanicthe car would have almost certainly been started at the roadside andI would now be £55 better off. I asked the AA to reimburse this feeand they have refused.

Well, you can do what I am doing next year.....ditch them and telling them why.

Unless you can dig through their terms and conditions that clearly state that they will do what you were expecting then there is no case to answer for the AA.

Now you could email the CEO of the AA and see if they might be more prepared to refund the amount but I am not sure if they would do that.

I dare say they might if they were threatened with adverse publicity via BBC Watchdog, You and Yours on the BBC Home Service, or in the pages of the Daily Wail.

The President (sic) of the Automobile Association is one Edmund King: email edmund.king@theaa.com and twitter http://twitter.com/@AAPresident

Thanks for replying. I did write to the CEO. Someone on another forum had done this successfully. However this was several years ago. I received a copy and paste reply (word for word) the same as my e-mails from a David Bowman if indeed such a person exists. Terms and Conditions: `Exclusions` While We seek to meet Your needs at all time, our resources are finite and this may not always be possible.

My resources are most certainly finite and I won't be bothering with the AA again.

If they try that as a limitation on their liability, one might expect it to be judged unfair if it ever came to court.

If they cannot provide assistance - and refuse to warn motorists about speed traps, as they once did - why should anyone join the AA?
