In July 2010, I had to employ a solicitor to defend against a summons received by the local authority.
The firm provided me with a rough estimate of costs mounting to £7000.
They wanted payment upfront before starting any work.
When my father paid the bill in September 2010, they failed to provide no full and final invoice, and no breakdown of costs.
In October 2013, I enquired about a breakdown of costs and final received it from the firm.
Well, I was shocked was they had billed for.
They had apparently charged me for 9 telephone calls, 11 letters (which I didnt received 11 letters), meetings which didn't happen, and exagerated travelling expenses.
I notified the Legal Ombudsman over this matter, they refused to investigate saying it was out of their time limit.
My question is because the solicitor failed to keep me notified of costs, clearly fiddled the bill, repeatedly refused to take my instructions, and they lost the litigation in court.
Would I therefore have a claim for professional negligence?
