Yep,,the Aussies plonk them back on the first available flight..we let them in,lose them, find them, bail them (cos without papers they are virtually impossible to kick out)..expect them to 'sign in' once a week/fortnight,,probably lose them again and so the merry dance goes on.It's ridiculous.

We were made aware of the rules before we went
and each of us read up on it as we didn't want to get in trouble or indeed embarrass our friend in anyway.
They are I believe a lot easier going than they used to be but break their rules and you are in deep do dah, shame our rules can not be respected in the same way as theirs.
Nothing to do with the thread maybe, but I think it would help us respect Europeans more if they had more respect for us.
Did you dress "respectfully" to go to the mall? I was in Dubai exactly this time last year, didn't see much reason for concern, lots of western people live there and dress like us. One thing I found funny were the signs at the mall (can't remember if it was the Dubai Mall or the Mall of the Emirates) where they went on about dressing respectfully, and they had signs pointing at bare shoulders, etc. I was in a skimpy summer dress (42C in the shade at the time!) and I saw a few other western women like that, the Mall police didn't say a word to me, I thought if they did I'd just leave the mall, but they probably turn a blind eye for the $ake of bu$ine$$! :wof: :wof: :wof: I found it funny because it's a very western, kinda US style place, not a traditional Arab thing at all!

Another thing I found funny was that you're not allowed to chew gum on the underground, and there are some nice ladies policing the carriages who will tell you in perfect English not to chew, like being in school! They also stop men from invading the women & children only carriages, another curiosity I'd never seen, although women were allowed on the mixed carriages too. It was nice though because you had a better chance to find a seat. Other than the Chewing Gum Police, I didn't experience any major culture shock.

Another reason not to be part of the 'Europe':-

We would never again have to embarrass ourselves at the Eurovision Song Contest!

Oh, common guys ....... someone was bound to bring it up eventually, especially considering its coming up again this month

Cyprus 12 points - Greece 12 points, lol

Not even Ireland loves us! (that much)
