I'm looking for some pointers either to case law or experince with regards to what consitutes "reasonable time"

    I purchased a washer/dryer (£495) on 22/11/2012.
On Friday it wouldn't drain properly and started smoking.

As I understand it I can reject the goods within a "reasonable time" after purchase. Given that it has been christmas and new year during which time the machine had little use is 2 months a reaonable time or should I accept a repair?

    Have a read of this:

If you Google 'Reasonable time for rejecting white goods' you will get a vast amount of information on this.

Yes I've seen that and done exactly as you said. I would have thought there would have been some definitive case which could be quoted, but it seems not

There is a fairly authoritative report on expected life spans and things somewhere, but I have not got a clue where I last saw it. Perhaps someone reading this post might know of it.

          Was it blocked by something?
Anyway, 2 months isn't reasonable time for the machine to go wrong, neither is it reasonable to have a new machine, automatically. It needs an inspection visit - trust the technician's advice.
