  • Garden Furnitureworld internet shopping

This is my own experience with this company and would like to hear other peoples experiences.

I recently purchased some items on the internet 'GARDEN FURNITURE WORLD' and thankfully paid by credit card. They took the payment in full and agreed the delivery date and the confirmation by email was sent at the speed of light.

They also gave to me a tracking number, so on the morning ( last Friday) I checked the tracking number and found to my amazment that the goods had not been dispatched.

I immediately phoned to enquire - guess what no one ever answers the phone, so I emailed and requested to know what has happened to my order. The answer came back on the following Monday that they are out of stock, so I emailed again and they responded yesterday that they now do not know when the goods will be in stock.

I tried to phone them again to day to discuss alternative goods but still no one answers the phone. I have now emailed and told them that if I do not hear from them before 3pm to day I will report them to the Trading Standards. As I fail to see how they took my credit card payment if they did not have the stock to support my purchase. I have also telephoned Barclaycard and they have placed this in dispute until such time that I receive my delivery of goods and they will not charge my card until I receive the goods.

    28/4/2011

I sent cancelation of this order last weekend since they are unable to supply the goods which have been paid for and have just received this message which I am fuming at:-

Dear Mr xxxxxxxx (I am a Mrs)

Please accept my apologies for the delays in our response. I am just writing to confirm that your refund request has been passed to our management team for approval. This should take place within the next 2 working days. We will confirm

to you by email as soon as the refund has been approved.

Once the refund is approved please allow 7 working days for the refund to be processed and to be returned to your account.

Should you have any questions or queries in the meantime please do not hesitate to contact us.

    Kind regards

    Chirene

    Cancellations Department

I have sent back a really angry responsel - but guess that this company have no backbone or morals and that they never emails they just send out standard acknowledgement. According to them it looks like I will be waiting at least two weeks.

In the mean time I now have the form for chargeback with VISA and will complete this at the weekend.

This is my response, sadly no one will read it there but I am sure it will be read here:-

I am Mrs xxxxxxx and not a Mr,,,,, you cannot even get this right.

Please note I am not amused at the length of time it is taking for your company to make a refund back to my credit card.

You should never have taken my payment in the first place when you did not have the goods in stock to be able to fulfil the delivery of the goods. It is now outrageous for you to take this length of time as you have had the use of my money since 9/4/2011 and I want this money back in my account by Tuesday 3rd May 2011 which I do not feel is unreasonable.

How dare you hold on to this money it is not yours to do so, please treat this matter as urgent.

Please give me the name of you CEO so I can make a complaint to this person.

    Mrs xxxxxxx

I have just found this on their website DirectorsJoe and Richard are the owners and directors of WorldStores (BedroomFurnitureWorld’s parent company). Over the past six years they’ve worked to develop the company into the success it is today by making it the fastest growing retailer on the web. And they’re always looking for ways to improve so please let them know what you think here.

      And did you ?
If you think nobody cares if you're alive, try missing a couple of payments.

well if Barclaycard weren't charging the card till you receive the goods, the length of time taken to refund is academic, isn't it? Although I agree that in general it would be very crap if the charge hadn't been put on hold by Barclaycard, and the company shouldn't have taken the payment if the goods weren't in stock.

Yes I would agree Wends, but got my Barclaycard statemement today and low and behold it has been charged, despite being advised otherwise. I have the form now to send back and it is a matter of time as to if Barclaycard refund first or Garden World.

The thing that has really pee'd me off big time was the fact that if they did not have the stock why did they take the money and or once they took the money and knew that they did not have the stock they should have contacted me immediately and either refunded immediately or offered me an alternative. I had to contact them once I found from my tracking number that my goods were not being delivered on the designated day.

Seems to me that Barclaycard need a complaint too then.

Just found this BBC article about compensation.... could be interesting.

Phoned Barclaycard earlier today to enquire why I was charged and they said that I misunderstood, they have placed this item in dispute and that they would refund it once they get my complaint in writing. It has only taken the 7 days to get the form to me.

The moral of this story is that buying on Credit card you do have the benefit of chargeback when it goes bellyup.

Actually, you don't. Chargeback is for Visa debit cards (or Visa credit cards for claims under £100) and is part of Visa’s internal policies and is not legally required or supported.

The protection afforded when one purchases anything using a credit card is enshrined in law and is contained within s.75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974.

It is important to recognise the difference because banks and card issuers will attempt to dissuade claimants in any case and confusing the reclaiming methods will only slow things down further.

                    Final update

Barclaycard refunded me in full the money that I had paid for goods which were not delivered after I completed their chargeback form. Then Garden world refunded 3 weeks later. Barclaycard have now taken back the refund which is fine as I have now been properly put back to a position where I was before I paid these jerks.

The moral of this story is just be very careful when purchasing on line as they can take your money and not have the items in stock and the refund took 8 weeks to get back as it was in my case but this company did not bring this to my attention until I chased them for my delivery which was promised on a certain day.

A good idea is to speak to their customer service dept, I tried but after the event and found that it was non existant in otherwords you could never be put through as there was not one. The guy who took the calls always says that they will call back but they never did.
