This is very unusual but, in my mind, straight forward.
There were a couple of trouble makers belonging to a Regimental Association and they were kicked out. And this after already being kicked out of another. Each Regtl Association has a standard, a banner of the Branch which is paraded as and when.
One of these dissenters got hold of the Branch standard on a pretext and failed to return it claiming it is now the property of a rival branch consisting of a handful of members. One or three of these original, gullible, members followed them to the 'new' Association.
The Headquarters of this Association told them that they had to return the stolen standard otherwise there would be no recognition of their status (ostrich syndrome here- pretend its not there - it isn't).
They have failed to do this and are now flaunting it as THEIR official standard. It is not, it belongs to the original official branch for that city.
The Branch contacted the police who fobbed them off by stating that this was a 'civil' matter and nothing to do with them but, theft is theft is it not? A so called 'civil matter' is not cheap and we do not have the wherewithall to pay as we all know the law is not infallible.
My question is this:
The Standard was originally purchased by the members of the original offical branch and it is their's. The standard was stolen by a dissenter and is now, according to them, THEIR standard. How does the official branch stand in law with regards to getting their standard back, which is quite valuable and is a 'one off' as they are made individually and heavily embroidered with bages and battle honours?
