I bought/rented a bike for my son in 2019 with an agreement of a recurring direct debit payment of £30 a month. You keep the bike for as long as you like and all service, repairs, maintenance etc is included. The bike arrived and the direct debit instruction was set up on my account. I never contact the company for any repairs or maintenance etc as we did it all ourselves. Fast forward 4-5 years and I receive an email from the company to say they’ve been notified that the direct debit has been cancelled and on checking their records I have never paid anything and as such I owe the £690.
I never cancelled the direct debit and I never noticed that they weren’t taking the money each month(I have adhd). I also completely forgot to respond to the email.
Today I have listened to voicemails on my phone and I’ve had a message around 4 weeks ago to say I have an outstanding debt of £690 and if they don’t hear from me working 7 days(which has now passed) it will sent to solicitors.
can anyone shed any light on where i stand with this? Is there a time limit on these kinds of situations? Also, they seem to forgetting that I never failed to pay! The direct debit was set up, they just never took any money.
