Plusnet I S P doubled my monthly internet cost. (and the service was poor)

My 18 month contract was about to end, and on ending they would double the monthly fee. I emailed them giving two weeks notice, as was required by them - before the new $, 22 pounds rise came in - in that I wanted to leave and I stopped the direct debit. [Since I paid a month up front when I joined I think they owe me money). I noted the phone and internet stopped working before the two weeks notice ended

They ignored me, the notice I gave I sent 3 more emails to their ''support'' team; all ignored/no replies.

Now I have a letter from a debt collector - EP Finance - asking for 144 pounds !
No doubt in a month it will double.

    should I go the ombudsman?

Send them a Subject Access Request, they have 30 days to provide all the data on the account. Make sure you get Proof of Postage.

Once you've followed their complaints procedure and you get a response / deadlock letter, if you still aren't happy, then you should lodge a complaint with the Services Ombudsman.

Write to EP Finance, explain that you are disputing the debt and to return it to Plusnet.
