  • Supermarket Shoplifting Help

    Hey guys,
I was looking for some help and advice.
I lost my job in April and only started back working around a month ago so money has been really tight. I’m not proud of it and I know it’s not right, but every now and then, on my weekly Lidl shop - I’d shoplift a few items alongside my shop. I’ve never been caught but today, I feel like something might have happened. As I was queueing to pay, one of the managers entered the office with a security guard (which I’ve never noticed in store), the both looked me up and down and closed the door. The checkout lady said about two words to me and was acting really high on alert. My heart was racing. I paid and got out as fast as I could and once i was a bit further away, I looked back and the security guard was in the car park looking around for what I’m assuming was me.
My question is what should I do? I feel I will avoid the store for a while but do they have any grounds to investigate without physically detaining me in store? I’m worried they’ve suspected me for a while and have CCTV of me etc. what could be the worst possible outcome of this?
I know I’ve done a bad thing, but like so many others, I’ve been struggling with costs and have been paying for my shop each week - just taking some items to help a little bit.
