  • If a company tells you they will refund you, do they have to?

Hi, hopefully this is the right place for a post like this!

The situation is that I sent my laptop off for repairs and had a very poor experience - they took over a month for a small repair and returned my laptop with several more issues than I sent it off with including the volume and brightness being stuck on max and a different version of Windows to the one I had a license for being installed. I had a lengthy email conversation with them when I was eventually told that I would be able to get a refund if I sent the laptop back to them. I was told my case was being escalated in order to request a refund, was told how much money I would be being refunded, told how to send the laptop back in order to get the refund, and had several conversations over email and phone call pertaining to the refund with no issues. I sent the laptop back to them, it was returned to me, but I did not get the refund. When I spoke to them today I was told that it was not on the system that I was eligible for a refund and that they usually only offer refunds if a device has been sent back 3 times for the same issue (mine was sent 2 times for different issues.)
My question is, is the fact that I was told I would be getting a refund binding in any way? What can I do about this situation?

It seems to be an implied term of the contract - see S.50 Consumer Rights Act 2015
