  • Purchasing and returning a vehicle to limited business. Garage

Over two weeks ago I purchased a vehicle advertised on autotrader as a good runner with no issues and 12 month m.o.t and absolutely no problems what so ever with the vehicle.

After the first drive the car atopped working completely the electrics were faulty and power steering were faulty. I spoke with the garage they agreed to fix the vehicle within 10 days, as its under the 3 month warranty term. I contacted them every day several times after the ten day period and absolutely no effort was made to fix the car. After 14 days I requested my money back as is my right under the consumer act as the car was not satisfactory as advised and the car is for business use but without the car I cannot work as I'm self employed and I have to commute.
he agreed to return the money but has not given me a specific day and I spoke with the garage and explained that I do not want to wait for the money to be returned as I have no car and no money to purchase another vehicle and they now have all the paperwork and the second set of keys have been sent out to the garage. I spoke with them today as it has now been 21 days since purchase I would like to know what my rights and options are as they have turned an unkind attitude towards me and they say they will return the money but absolutely nothing has been put In writing and our correspondences have not been recorded thanks in advance for any help

First of all, can I ask - How did you pay?

Credit card gives you more powerful rights.
Lawyer (solicitor) - retired from practice, now supervising solicitor in a university law clinic. I do not advise by private message.

Litigants in Person should download and read the Judiciary's handbook for litigants in person: https://www.judiciary.uk/wp-content/..._in_Person.pdf

You state the car was for business use, but you have to commute
Assuming the vehicle was to enable you to commute to your place of work and is not a main part of your business I would suggest you are a consumer
As such the dealer has accepted the rejection and he must return your monies within fourteen days in the same manner as you paid him. Consumer Rights Act 2015 20 (15) & (16)
