  • Claiming call charges as costs?

    Interesting thing happened yesterday...

Took Royal Mail to Court. The Judge said at the end that the cost of my calls to Royal Mail, to try to sort out the issue before any legal action took place, could be asked to be considered as costs, if he decided my claim was successful.

I always thought they should be considered as part of the claim itself, and so asking for them as pure costs is a new one on me.

Anyone can shed some light on how makes sense?

    Thanks.

    Try this.

Your claim is for whatever the defendant did or did not do.

Costs are the costs you incur in pursuing that claim. Phone calls were made pursuing the claim: had it not been for whatever the defendant did or did not do you would not have had to make those calls.
